Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA)

Athens, Greece

General information

The Biobank at BRFAA offers and supports a large collection of state-of-the-art biobanking and sample analysis services. The facility provides biological samples (tissues, cells, fluids) accopmpanied by complete electronic clinical and socioeconomic data. The Biobank provides sample analysis by supporting sample handling, high throuput analysis of macromolecules (DNA, RNA and proteins), metabolites and data storage, curation and analysis. The facility also supports stem cell-based technologies for cell therapies.

Expertise

The facility has a broad interest in translational research combining molecular biology, pharmacology, stem cell technologies and clinical research to study the molecular basis of diseases and develop the appropriate therapies. The team develops platforms and pipelines for the integration of biobanking, stem cell and systems biology, and large data management to achieve risk prediction, perform patient stratification and provide the clinicians with comprehensive information for better management and treatment of diseases like Parkinson’s Disease (PD), cardiovascular and immune-related diseases.
