General information

The German Mouse Clinic studies mouse models for human diseases. Understanding mammalian gene function is key for the development of new approaches for diagnosis and therapy. Standardized phenotyping methods enable the characterization of mouse lines based on the analysis of more than 550 parameters. The comprehensive analysis is performed on the basis of a scientific collaboration and not as service.

Expertise

We perform an examination of mouse mutants using a broad standardised phenotypic check-up with more than 550 parameters. The screens in the German Mouse Clinic are designated to the areas of behaviour, bone and cartilage development, neurology, clinical chemistry, eye development, immunology, allergy, energy metabolism, lung function, vision and pain perception, cardiovascular analyses and pathology.

Access modalities

If you apply for the phenotyping analysis at the GMC via the CORBEL Open Call you have to contact the GMC before submitting the proposal to ensure consideration of the project. Phenotypic analysis in the primary screen is offered on the basis of a scientific collaboration at no charge. Findings and results of the primary screen are published together with the collaboration partner. A collaboration agreement has to be signed and information has to be provided about the mouse line. We have worked out a stringent logistic to ease the request procedure. To start the process the collaboration partner has to fill out a request form. 

Scientific and technical requirements

A FELASA documentation is required and crucial for import into the facility.
A collaboration will be denied if specific pathogens are present.
The collaboration partner must provide a cohort of mice to be analysed [15 males and 15 females (mutants) and 15 males and 15 females (wildtype)]. The wildtype animals have to be littermates of the mutant animals. The animals have to be sent when they are 7 weeks old and genotyped. The maximum age difference between youngest and oldest is 7 days. For the genetic background we need at least 5 backcross generations.
